I’m told that streaming platforms have identified 5,071 different music genres. But I’m concerned with perhaps the most peculiar and troubling music genre of them all—a category of music I’d call deadly songs. To be specific, I am in search of the deadliest song of them all. What a great post!! I am delighted to discover your Culture Notes. And at the same time chagrined to find a music blog possibly more entertaining than my own. Drat!
This reminds me of Navid Kermani’s book “The Book of Those Killed By Neil Young.” Unfortunately, no complete English translation has been published, but some notes about the book are here, along with a link to a sample: https://www.navidkermani.de/neil-young/?lang=en
Your writings are fantastic Ted. Am teaching a class to at-risk kids on the Power of Music, and your material is perfect! Bravo.

I enjoy The Music Salon.
Thanks, Ted. This was really an excellent job of research.
Interesting. ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’?
"Onward Christian Soldiers"?
Fascinating & witty, as always. Thanks Ted, love this new platform for your insightful writing. @TheBlueTrane

definitely going to look into "dark cabaret" sounds like fun
Orff's Carmina Burana and Mozart's Dies Irae from the Requiem come to mind. It seemed like every middlebrow drama of the '00s used one or the other.
