I remember talking to Little Georgie on my lone visit to NO..he talked about how locked up the local music scene was and another musician who was born there told me he was getting out. I asked him why and he said that he was tired of living in a third world country. I have great memories of that visit (Funky Butt and Kermit Ruffins, Snooks Eaglin w/George Porter at Mid City, Brass bands at Donna's, great jazz in various other venues like Snug Harbor and Palm Court) But I still remember wondering and thinking "HOw do you not preserve the home of arguably the most important American musician in history?" IT rankled ...and your article details the rest of the sad story of other venues lost to neglect.
