Here are 10 neglected soundtrack composers who captured the sounds of hip American music for Italian film audiences. This is like funk and jazz from another universe.
Great list Ted thanks. Quick question... are you on Spotify and if so, could you also curate a playlist for it as well? Qobuz isn't available in Canada... Thanks
Marvelous list, Ted. I've also been a fan of Italian soundtracks for a few years but still hadn't heard many of these picks.
For my money, though, no list is complete without Peppino de Luca. One of his songs, "Rito a Los Angeles," got reused in the movie Ocean's Twelve, but was removed from the commercial edition of the soundtrack, presumably for its main riff's uncanny resemblance (most would say improvement) to Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." I'd need a copyright lawyer to explain why they could use it in the movie but not the CD, but either way, it swings.
Thanks for sharing that. A lot of Italian film music from this era came close to violating copyrights. But I guess the composers would say they were "paying homage" to an influence. It's a thin line.
This is cool. I hate however jumping back and forth between your newsletter and YouTube. I see you provided a Qobuz playlist at the end, but I already subscribe to Apple Music. Any chance of providi g such playlists for Apple? (I know it is fairly simple to convert playlists between Spotify and Apple to provide both, perhaps also possible with Qobuz?)
I support Qobuz because they pay more money to musicians are committed to providing a high quality platform for listeners—reflected in their superior audio quality, liner notes, etc. I realize that this complicates things for subscribers to other platforms, and I'm sorry for this. But I've made a decision not to link to streaming services that don't share my values. Perhaps others can find workarounds and ways of transferring playlists from Qobuz to other platforms.

Ah. I found this. Possible to offer your playlists in multiple formats? https://soundiiz.com/tutorial/qobuz-to-apple-music
Would be much appreciated!!
