I’m struck that Julian Lage, who’s mainstream - he filled Town Hall in NY a few months ago - plays with the likes John Zorn and Kris Davis. (She sounds avante garde to my amateur ear). She played in his band in his packed house performance - did her avante garde thing. He played on her Diatom Ribbons with its paean to Cecil Taylor. I wonder what a real jazz expert would make of this. Everything’s getting incorporated, lines blurring?
