A few days ago I published my in-depth profile of Paul Winter, an inspiring music innovator whose career has spanned a half-dozen different genres. Here's my Q&A with Winter—where he talks about everything from his role in bringing jazz to Russia to his collaborations with John Hammond and George Martin.
I totally enjoyed this - I love history as well as music. Turns out I know Ted Grever's son, who I worked with at Cisco. He said he has all of his dad's notes, pictures, autographs and that he started to accompany him to the USSR at the age of five.
I appreciated Paul's insight when he mentioned his three great universals - kids, music and nature.
Thank you, Ted, for this interview with Paul Winter. I still remember hearing him in concert with his Consort in Boulder back in the 1970's. My favorite part of that concert was when Paul asked the audience when was the last time they all had a "good howl." Then, he proceeded to invite and lead the crowd in that howl. It was a hauntingly beautiful and powerful experience. And, I have to add that another one of my favorite musical ensembles is the original lineup of the band, Oregon, all of whom had first played with the Paul Winter Consort.
