I chose a big rock formation in Joshua Tree National Park. It’s not going anywhere.

Good choice of location! I proposed to my now wife 50 feet under water on a coral reef in the Caymans. Luckily she understood my gestured proposal, delivered on one knee as required, and nodded yes).

Did that mean you were both sunk?

As u may well know, Hitchcock filmed a key scene from his brilliant movie 'Vertigo' at the Golden Gate Bridge. Thankfully, your love story has turned out better than Scotty and Madeleine's.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful story. Tara’s wedding photo is breathtaking. I hope this triggers an onslaught of men telling their marriage proposal stories. As my now 93-year old dad told a group of high school boys: there is the hunter and then there is the prey. Then my mom came within earshot, he cleared his throat and said, Never underestimate the prey!

What a great story. Your writing is incredible and your ability to name check literature and people in books is encyclopedic. My story is more about Denise then me. We were at a Restaurant [Spring of 1997] and I spontaneously said [after 5 years of dating. Commitment is not my strong suite] "I should get you a ring; thinking it was a sign of commitment. The next thing I know Denise was planning a Wedding. [In my head I had not gotten that far] Here we are 29 years later happily married.

I proposed in the Baltimore Indian restaurant where we had our first date. I did not get on my knees because as I explained to my future wife, with osteoarthritis and no cartilage in both my knees it would take the waiter and head waiter to get me back on my feet.

Ted I proposed to my wife not far from where you did, atop Mt. Tam! The three of us are also still standing strong! We were off to Napa afterwards. Very romantic 💘
